Silk Mantle

This mantle was made out of a pattern I enlarged from Godey's magazine, February 1859. It is named "Mathilde Mantilla." I decided to make mine with black silk taffeta (100% silk) for the main fabric and lined it with quilted silk/cotton (90% silk/10% cotton) iridescent fabric for warmth. The lining is quilted in a zig-zag pattern with wool batting. The hood is not meant to be worn on your head, but is actually there only for decoration. The mantle fastens up the front with hooks and eyes. It is a very loose garment and should fit most sizes from small to large.
