1940s Gowns

These are a few WWII era gowns I made for my sister and I one year. I've started to collect vintage patterns from the 1930s and '40s and have always been in love with the cute fashions of these eras. The first gown is made from a vintage DuBarry pattern, 1943. Since the fabric I had was striped, I decided to make the front and back sections cut on the bias. It has a zip on the side for the closure and ties in the back to adjust the fit.

The next gown I made from a pattern Butterick put out awhile ago. It's a reprint of a vintage '40s pattern. Butterick has since discontinued the pattern. I picked up a lovely brown and cream polka dotted fabric to use. This dress has a bias cut bodice that is pleated in the front, deep V-neckline, short sleeves and a swishy skirt. Perfect to swing dance in!
