Regency Corset -- Inspiration

Materials | Journal | Gallery

I have been wanting to make a Regency corset for the longest time. Finally, I decided to get the Mantua-Maker Regency corset pattern and start working on it. I had first thought that there was no way I would sew these stays all by hand, but I later started to think it would be fun to sew something all by hand. Also, if I lived in this era, sewing machines would not have been available, so I wouldn't have a choice, but to do them by hand. I had also thought this would be a nice project to do in the evenings when I can sit down in the living room and be with my family, instead of lock myself up in my sewing room. Since I sew ALL the time anyway, it's nice to be able to get out of my "closet" for once.

Alright, on to some inspiration! Here are some pictures of originals that helped me decide what I wanted my corset to look like I especially like the first picture.

Some of the ones below are from a bit later era. But, it's close and they show some nice ways to cord a corset. I love the one with blue stitches. I thought about doing that, but then I would need to get blue thread, and it wouldn't be quite right without silk blue thread, and there really aren't any local places that I know of that carry blue silk thread. Maybe I'll do that on another corset I make. Perhaps an 1830's corset!
